WE NEED YOU! Help Flood Victims

LFCS Reaches Out to Flood Victims

You’ve seen the pictures, you’ve heard the reports and you have probably known someone who has been effected by past or current flooding. Any disaster is difficult to deal with and the effects are long-lasting.

Last week brought torrential rainfall across much of Missouri that has lead to the worst flooding the state has seen since the mid – 90s. Seventy counties in Missouri have been declared disaster sites, where some areas saw as much as 10‿ of rain over a 48 hour period. This caused flash flooding in creeks and streams and massive river flooding along the Meramec near St. Louis. There were 5 tragic fatalities associated with this disaster and thousands of others whose homes and businesses have been impacted. Cleanup and long term recovery efforts are just getting underway and will take months to achieve.

Lutheran Family and Children's Services is the designated disaster response agency for Lutheran Disaster Response and LCMS World Relief and Human Care in Missouri. Currently, LFCS is assessing the long term recovery needs as identified due to the current flood situation. Once those needs are identified, it is our job to coordinate Lutheran efforts to respond to those needs. These needs may consist of coordinating volunteer efforts to help with clean-up and restoration, helping families deal with the emotional and spiritual effects of loss, and providing special programs to help children deal with the upheaval in their lives.

We need your help in bringing hope and the healing presence of Christ to impacted persons through long term recovery efforts. The most effective way for most people to provide assistance to those impacted is by providing financial support to responding agencies. 100 percent of your donation to LFCS designated for “Disaster Response" will be used to respond to this disaster. Click here to make your gift today. Your gift will make a difference in the lives of those turned upside down by recent flooding.

Blessings,

Rev. Alan M. Erdman
